Powell School Celebrates Earth Week & TV Turnoff
April 20-27 th is Earth Day/Week and Turnoff TV Week. (Earth Day is the 22nd). The following is a list of happenings for you to share. Parents are contacting businesses for coupons and will provide support for the clean-up and recycling.
Turnoff TV campaign: Students and parents should sign a pledge to turn off the tv for one week. (Please keep those commitment forms with you.) Encourage TV Turnoff by suggesting alternative activities. Students will keep a list of things they did instead of watching tv. On Monday, May 4 the signed statement must be returned in order to earn a certificate and prize.
Earth Saving activities. Students have become careless with their trash. Each day of the week focus on a different area. Junk Art Contest all entries due Thursday. Earth IQ Question- forms for responses will be in your box, questions are announced with Wrtz Crew.
Monday: Turnoff the TV -saving energy
Tuesday: Clean-Up the grounds Schedule posted for classes to sign up to take about 10 minutes to pick up trash. We will make sure all students have bags and gloves.
Wednesday: Creativity Day (Earth Day) Teachers may do projects in the classroom for Earth Day. (Of course this can be done any day during the week.)
Thursday: Waste Free Lunch Day We can encourage the students to bring non-disposable lunch containers for lunch that day. Junk Art entries due.
Friday: Share Day: This is when the students can share their efforts and what they have learned during the week. Ideas might be poems, essays, songs or raps, drawings or posters to be displayed or published. Junk Art winners announced.
With our efforts this can be a very educational, fun, worthwhile school project
