“The
opportunity to have
such strong instruction in
the arts at the elementary school
level is unique and very exciting to our
family. We have been at Powell for three
years and have watched our daughter
flourish and grow academically,
creatively, and personally.”

NC School Report Cards Released
The North Carolina School Report Cards Web site has gone live. This site offers a collection of up-to-date data about student achievement and attendance, class size, school safety, teacher quality, school technology and other topics of interest to parents and others in the school community. The site was developed to provide the big and small pictures for many of the critical components of our students' educational experience. Schools receiving Title I funds must share this report with parents. We will post the link and snapshot to the Powell website. Feel free to call/email me with any questions. Powell Report Card Link
WEDNESDAY, November 18th -- Dismissal at 2:45pm
Wednesday Early Dismissal/Early Release
Remember that we will be dismissing each Wednesday one hour early (2:45pm ) and on the following six Wednesdays will dismiss at 1:15pm: 9/23, 10/21, 12/2, 2/3, 3/10 & 4/21. Please make plans to have your children picked up early on these days or to meet them at home. We realize this will require some adjustments on your part and we want to help how we can. We have worked with the YWCA to offer a “Wednesday Only” option for their afterschool program. This would be a fee-based program - $60 a month, $15 a day (paid in advance) or $20 for a "drop-in". You can contact the school on the main line (856-7737) or contact me at jsposato@wcpss.net if you have questions.

Right to Request Teacher Qualifications
Our school receives federal funds for Title I programs that are part of the No Child left Behind Act of 2001(NCLB). This law provides parents the right to request information regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teacher(s). If you would like to request this information, please contact me at jsposato@wcpss.net or 856-7737. All of our staff members meet the state licensing requirements for the grade level and subjects in which they are providing instruction and have met the “ Highly Qualified” requirements established under NCLB.
